“BUILT INS – BUILTS -INS – BUILT INS” – absolutely one of my favorite elements in design for a home office or honestly, any office. 

You might ask – “well, how should I style these elements in my design.  Some items may vary between every day books or just décor pieces that simply give you inspiration in your work space.

Well I’m here to share with you these 10 simple steps on how to style these areas of the home or office. That’s it! 10.  

1.    Start with larger items first. This will “anchor” smaller items – if you start with the small pieces you will end up doing and re-doing - lets be efficient with time here!

 2.    Bring in artwork – small or large pieces depending on the scale of the space

3.    Mix up book placement – place books horizontally on one shelf and vertical on another.

4.    Introduce decorative objects – items that give you inspo or that bring you joy!

5.    Put an item on your stack – layers are always good!

6.    Decorate in odd numbers – this is most visually appealing.

7.    Add greenery – living plants give healing and energetic properties to the room

8.     Consider adding a vase or taller pieces - this gives a height interest.

9.     Large or taller items style towards the center of the focal point – Ex: Taller candles at a fireplace – this idea anchors the center of the focal point area.

10.  Repetition is key – similar objects in material or color or shape make your eye MOVE!
